Who We Are

The College of Charleston Rowing Team operates as a non-profit club sport and is part of College of Charleston Club Sports. The program brings together student-athletes who compete regionally and nationally in both fall and spring racing seasons.

From the marshes around Charleston to regattas across the Southeast and beyond, the team travels to established head races and sprint events each year, building a tradition of competitive performance.

The College of Charleston Crew Team is a student-run, non-profit club rowing program that represents the College of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina. Open to undergraduates of all experience levels, the team welcomes novices who have never touched an oar as well as experienced rowers looking to compete at a higher level. Through structured practices, erg training, and on-water sessions, members learn the fundamentals of sweep and sculling while developing the discipline and teamwork that define the sport. The program fosters a supportive, family-like atmosphere where athletes can grow as rowers and as members of a longstanding campus tradition, building skills that extend well beyond the boathouse and into their broader collegiate experience at CofC.

The team competes across two primary seasons, traveling throughout the Southeast and beyond to a full slate of regattas. Fall focuses on head races, longer endurance-oriented events where crews race against the clock over multi-mile courses on rivers and lakes. Spring shifts the emphasis to sprint racing, with side-by-side heats over shorter distances that demand explosive power and precise boat handling. Across both schedules, athletes race in a variety of boat classes, including singles, doubles, pairs, fours, and eights, allowing rowers of every size and experience level to find a competitive fit. Regular destinations include regional regattas in the Carolinas and Georgia, alongside travel to established southeastern events that draw numerous collegiate programs from across the region, including matchups against ACC and other conference-affiliated club crews.

As a club sport under College of Charleston Club Sports, the program is largely self-governed, with student leadership guiding daily operations, travel logistics, and equipment care. Officers and team captains help set the tone for each season, organizing novice recruitment, coordinating with the head coach, and managing the shared responsibility of maintaining the fleet, launches, and erg machines that make daily training possible. Because the team operates as a non-profit, members and supporters also play a role in fundraising and community outreach, keeping the program accessible to students regardless of background. Whether launching off the Charleston waterfront in early-season conditioning or lining up at a spring sprint regatta, the crew team continues to grow its tradition of competitive, community-driven collegiate rowing.

Our Seasons

Each year, the program fields entries at a steady cadence of major regattas.

• Fall: Head of the Charles, Head of HOOCH, Lake Lanier, Head of Tennessee, First Coast Head Race, Head of the South, Head of Cape Fear.
• Spring: Clemson Sprints, Aiken/Augusta Sprints, SIRA, Dad Vail, ACRA National Championship.
